How does Copthorne Silver Band see itself? Well, firstly, we exist in order to learn, practise and maintain musical skills for anyone who wishes to take part in this endeavour.
We are not a Contesting Band. Contests most certainly require a high standard of musicianship which encourages continuous self-improvment. However, we have decided not to undertake the pressures of this arena. We strive to improve by giving encouragement to people with a wide range of abilities (not always easy) but it's fun trying!
Public performances are undertaken for several reasons: (1) It helps various local groups and charities, (2) It helps to pay the bills so allows the Band to continue. (3) There are still many people out there who like to listen to a live Brass Band (4) We enjoy doing it!
Our Band has an excellent ethos, in short, we like our hobby and have great fun doing it

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE SOMETHING YOU MIGHT LIKE TO TAKE UP, OR PERHAPS COME BACK TO?

If so please come and have a chat about it either when you see us performing out somewhere, or come along to the Morgan Institute during an evening practise, just to listen if you wish.

We are particularly keen to encourage young people to take up music. There are lessons available on Thursday evenings before our main band practise and we can sometimes provide an instrument to start out on.
Vacancies?
We are always pleased to welcome more players for all seats in the Band, especially Cornet players.
